This tassel decoration is from the bottom of a woman's shawl, part of a complete costume worn in Shipki village in Ngari, western Tibet. Indian items such as cowry shells and glass beads that form part of this decoration were easily obtained as the area lay near the border and on a trade route up from India.

A tassel ornament for the lower edge of the wool shawl, five strings of cowries, dark blue, red and white glass beads at the end of each of the five strings is a larger cowrie.
