This is one of a pair of ear ornaments (with Museum no. IS.22-1999) designed to hang from meshed silver chains with crescent hook ends that attach to a cloth headband around the head. The ornament is part of a complete traditional female costume (Museum no. IS.6-24-1999) from Ngari, western Tibet, worn mainly for festivals.

Brief description
A woman's silver side of head ornament, made and used in western Tibet, ca.1960-70.
Physical description
A circular ornament of silver wire, wound round along two thirds of its length with a silver wire spiral, along its bottom edge are set two turquoise, four coral beads and one green agate. Seven sets of silver chains with hooked ends are attached to the bottom edge of the circle, at the ends of the chains are crescents with a hook, for hooking over the head-band.
