This rectangular amulet box or ga'u is characteristic of the type found in western and southern Tibet. Its front is decorated with filigree wire and inset turquoises. Worn around the neck it forms part of a complete set of traditional female costume and jewellery from Ngari, western Tibet (IS. 6-24-1999).

A rectangular silver amulet box or ga'u, made and used in western Tibet ca. 1960-70.
Physical description
A rectangular silver box with lobed pointed ends. The front decorated with bands of filigree between rows of pearled wire, set with seven turquoises, the backplate missing. Tubes for suspension attached to the top and bottom edges.
