This woollen cap forms part of a complete woman's costume from Shipki village in Ngari, western Tibet (seeMuseum nos IS.6-8, 10-24-1999). The cap was worn with the shawl on less formal occasions instead of the full headdress and other ornaments.

Brief description
A hood-shaped woman's woollen cap, made and worn in western Tibet ca. 1960-70.
Physical description
A hood-shaped cap made from two pieces of woollen cloth, one red and one indigo, stitched together. The red cloth is bleached white in circular patterns to resemble tie-dying. The rectangular face opening is edged with rainbow coloured wool bands.
