Object history | V&A Archival Records [28/6445]: “Pair of doors. Persian: dated 1574. Oblong shape, of wood. Each has a missed panel in the centre and two smaller panels at either end, surrounded by mouldings. They are carved with a diaper pattern and Persian characters, and surrounded by an outer border of running foliage. One door has two heart-shaped handles of metal with grotesque fish heads attached to the top of the stile, and a pilaster at the side carved with a rosette and having shaped, chamfered ends. The other door has a single metal handle of the same character but larger size. General remarks: The inscription states that the door was given Murad ibn Hamshuddin Imani in the above year.” |
