Head of a Bodhisattva

The oval face is inclined to its right side with heavy lidded eyes somewhat downcast and a cupid's bow mouth which has a slight smile. The head has wavy curls protruding under the headband of a turban above the ears and falling down onto the left shoulder behind an extended earlobe which is ornamented with a globuar earring: ( the right ear is largely missing together with any hair beneath it). The turban has a fairly flat profile over the top of the head. It has a narrow band round the forehead with a central rectangular clasp from under which emerge a pair of knotted rolls decorated with an incised pattern of criss-crossed lines.

One of a collection of objects excavated by Captain John Hay , I.S.313-335-1951, who supplied a note on the location retained in the Museum's registered papers of the several sites he dug whence came this collection. However, there are not specific locations for the individual objects.
