Domestic object

Lamp
2nd century- 3rd Century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Lamp from Sari Dheri, dating is problematical as there are no close classical western parallels, and the form is suggestive of western rather Indian origin, may date from 1st to 3rd centuries A.D. A heavy bronze lamp or jug with a large spout, a small bowl and a handle. The long and relatively wide open trough spout does not give the impression of a wick holder, but the bowl is small for a jug. Beyond damage on one side of the bowl from a blow, there is no weathering or blurring of sharp edges. This piece as regards, purpose, dating and condition is most puzzling.
