  • Two Buddha Images Karkota period These small images probably both came from personal shrines. The rare ivory sculpture shows the Buddha surrounded by umbrella and garland bearers who celebrate his return from Tusita Heaven, which he visited to preach to his deceased mother. The metal image, in its gestures and posture, follows the convention established in northern India over 400 years earlier. Kashmir 2. 700–800 Ivory with traces of paint Museum no.
