Of unlined white cotton twill, the dress has a rounded drawstring neck and short sleeves, all trimmed with hand cut and stitched broderie anglaise edged with a narrow scalloped whitework border. The dress is cut in flared tunic style, without a waist seam, and the front and back each have three large exterior box pleats ornamented with laid and couched narrow white braid in looped and spiralling patterns. Between the pleats are insertions of broderie anglaise to match that at the neck and sleeves, each finishing in a looped motif of white braid, and the skirt and sleeves are also finished above the hem with three lines of white braid.
