According to the Gospel of St Luke, when Jesus was 12 years old his parents took him to Jerusalem. Joseph and Mary lost Jesus and found him three days later in Solomon’s Temple, disputing with the learned doctors. This account is seen as an early indication of Christ's divinity.

Here he sits among the learned theologians, whose astonishment is clearly shown on their faces, while Joseph and Mary look on in the background.
