Double three-quarter-length portrait. Standing on the left, facing to front, right hand on chest and linking his left arm with his brother, is Albert. He is wearing Van Dyck costume, comprising of a doublet, lace collar and sleeves and a pendant around his neck, with the badge of the Order of the Garter. Ernest is standing on the right, turned slightly to left, looking to front, with his hand on hip. He is wearing armour, a pendant around his neck and a sword at his side. In his right hand he is holding a roll of paper.
