Frises, feuillages et grotesques

Print
ca.1645 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Phyllis Dearborn Massar notes that unusually for della Bella’s ornament prints, this suite appears to have been inspired by a commercially successful set of cartouche designs after Agostino Mitelli. Nevertheless, della Bella enriches Mitelli’s prototypes with his own imaginative embellishments. A related drawing is held in the Louvre, no. 370.
