Framed, hand-coloured engraving of Mr. N.T. Hicks in the role of Richard the Lion King, showing him brandishinga knife in his right hand, the left side of his face in profile, looking down and towering over a recumbent lion who lies in front of the facade of a fortified building. The figure of Mr Hicks is decorated with tinsel appliqué to represent chain mail on his arms and legs, his sword, neck chain, tunic sleeve trimmings, belt and shoes. The section of the paper image representing his tunic has been replaced with painted material, possibly glazed cotton.
