Solingen in Germany was and remains an important centre for the manufacture of cutlery. These scissors show some influence of the pared minimalism favoured by the Bauhaus, the influential art school which was based in Dessau at that time. However there is no record that the manufacturing firm of Pfeilring had any formal arrangement with the Bauhaus.

Physical description

Straight flat blades terminating in a half rounded tip; the handles a semi-circular loop with a half moulded underside. The blades are joined together by a screw in the centre, above which is the maker's mark for Pfeilring of Solingen. When closed, the two blades form an incised cross next to the maker's mark.
