Thomas Bewick was in Edinburgh in 1823 and visited the printing office of Ballantine and Robertson where he was persuaded to make this drawing of a horse in full trot. This was Thomas Bewick's only attempt at lithography. Copies were not greatly sought after in Bewick's lifetime.
