Costume design for Lillian Watson as Norina. The design, executed in black ink, depicts a full length female figure wearing an 1830's style costume. The costume consists of a low cut ankle length evening gown and fringed cloak with a decorative stripe & flower pattern. The figure also wears an elabroate "Apollo Knot" hairstyle decorated with plumes, and a pair of flat shoes tied with ribbon around the ankles. To the right of the figure is a detailed pencil drawing of the bodice and a feather boa.

Object history | This costume design by Alix Stone is part of an extensive collection of designs purchased by the Theatre Museum directly from the artist in 1994. The design was executed for an HTV production of Gaetano Donizetti' opera "Don Pasquale" performed by the Welsh National Opera in 1978. The cast included Geraint Evans as Don Pasquale, Ryland Davies as Ernesto, Russell Smythe as Dr Malatesta, and Lillian Watson as Norina. The production was directed by Basil Coleman, and the orchestra was conducted by Richard Armstrong. Alix Stone was not credited for the costume designs. |
