Object history
Tamara Karsavina first danced Zobeide in Mikhail Fokine's ballet "Scheherazade" in 1911 and throughout the pre-1914 Diaghilev Ballets Russes' seasons; she returned to the role during the Company's London seasons in 1919 and 1920, when Schwabe probably created this drawing and one of her as the Miller's Wife in Leonide Massine's ballet "The Three-Cornered Hat" ("Le Tricorne") (S.418-2000).
The drawing came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest.
