Small wooden Harlequin marionette with tiny ring fixed to the top of the head. The face is painted black except for the eyes and red mouth and the figure is wearing a soft brimmed off-the-face hat with black plume, off white neckfrill, a long sleeved off white tunic and trousers decorated with triangles arranged into rectangles in blue, yellow, red and green; around the waist is fixed a narrow leather belt and the shoes are heeled. At shoulders and upper legs the wood is replaced by a narrow strip to make the figure flexible and the neck is mobile.

Object history
The puppet is dressed in the manner of a Harlequin of the Commedia dell'Arte, with the full black face mask and a costume decorated with half-lozenge multi-coloured patches.
The puppet came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest. Although Beaumont is primarily remembered as a dance critic and historian, his interests also included puppets and the Commedia dell'Arte.
