Object history | The watercolour, thought to have been painted for Francis Skidmore by Bruce Talbert, puts the screen into the context in which it was created. It is an important contemporary visual record of the screen, designed by George Gilbert Scott, and produced in 1862 by the Skidmore Art Manufacturers Company of Coventry. The screen is a monument to the 19th century passion for medieval art. The watercolour is from an album once owned by Heaton, Butler and Bayne, the decorating and stained glass firm. |
Production | Probably made for Skidmore, makers of the screen (M.251: 1 to 2000-1984). |
