Jacob E Bang (1988-1965) trained as an architect, but joined Holmegaard in 1925, becoming art director in 1928. His earliest designs were freely blown shapes in light colours. This vase represents a later phase of more vigorous modernism. In 1943 he left to become art director at Nymolle Faience, and in 1957 he became art director at Kastrup glassworks which, by then, was linked with Holmegaard. Holmegaard and Royal Copenhagen Porcelain company were associated from 1923 for retailing purposes and this vase was bought from Royal Copenhagen for £1.4.0d in 1932.
