Description of V&A object from Hollis, R. 1970. Modern Chairs:1918-1970. The Whitechapel Art Gallery, London:
Used by Corbusier in the furnishing of a villa in Ville D’Avray, 1928-29, right, and first exhibited at the Salon d’Automne Paris 1929. The three chairs 8-10 were designed in association with Charlotte Perriand.

Description of craftsman from Hollis, R. 1970. Modern Chairs:1918-1970. The Whitechapel Art Gallery, London:
"Architect, city-planner, writer and painter. Born 1887, died 1965. Trained La Chaux-de-Fonds Art School, Switzerland. Worked under the architect Peter Behrens in Berlin (with Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius) own office from 1917, Paris. Arguably the most famous architect, of any country, in the twentieth century: himself a prolific writer, he has been the subject of innumerable studies. A catalogue of his complete work, edited by W. Boesiger, has appeared in seven volumes but is available in condensed version (London 1960). His own My Work was published in 1960, in the same year as the biography Le Corbusier: Architecture and Form by Peter Blake (London)."
