Elephant carrying the Brahamanical deity Indra which has a place of honour in Jainism, where he presides over a heavenly realm. His status is however, not that of a first rank deity, a honour reserved for the Jina or Tirthankaras ("ford-crossers" or spiritual liberators). In this image Indra is accompanied by a Mahout ( the elphant driver) and an attending follower.
