Object history
The flowers were given to the dance historian Cyril Beaumont by the ballerina Alicia Markova as a Christmas gift. They were almost certainly used by Alicia Markova as Giselle in Act II of the ballet as produced by the Vic-Wells (now Royal) Ballet in 1934. The production was premiered in January 1934 with Markova dancing for the first time the role with which she was to become most closely associated.
S.262-1979 is a second group of the flowers used in the same production, but with the Christmas greetings tag attached.

Historical significance: A rare example of a stage property used in a significant production, both for the Company and the dancer.
