At centre in choppy seas, near a buoy, a rinkelaar (a fast-sailing, shallow-draught boat used as a coastal pilot vessel) appears close-hauled (with its tacks drawn close to windward, its sheets hauled close aft, and its bow-lines drawn to their greatest extension). Further in the distance are a frigate under sail on the left and on the right another frigate sailing close-hauled with sails trimmed.
