Designed as part of the furnishings of the Law Courts in the Strand, which like the building itself were all designed in Street's office. The furnishing of this complex building had started in the early 1870s and it is likely that these chairs like many other fittings was made in batches as required. The dating derives from a drawing of September 1882 for this chair in the Gillows Records in Westminster Public Library. [1993]
