Object history
Hall & Bancks was a firm founded in 1819 following the marriage of Bancks into the Hall family. Previously it had been Hall & Son (1786-1819). Hall and Bancks were uncle and father of the subsequent 'Banck Brothers' firm. In 1830, Hall & Bancks merged with Hunt & Sons to become one firm although they had separate "Old Frizzles" (a popular name at the time for the Ace of Spades) for some time afterwards.
