Object history
This is one of a group of etchings, E.84 to 94-1950 (including three cancelled copperplates) printed by David Strang following the artist's death in 1942, at the request of his widow Thérèse Lessore (1884-1945). The editions varied in number depending on the condition of the plate, and afterwards, the copperplates were cancelled.
Historical context
Sickert produced a number of paintings at the Gaïté Montparnasse on the bank of the Seine c.1907. He made three paintings of the theatre, showing partial views of the gallery from below.
