Object history
The print is an off-stage portrait of the Romantic ballerina Fanny Cerrito, portrayed with commemorative medals and a jewelled laurel wreath diadem, probably presented to her by her admirers in Rome (diadem) and London (medal). The date of 1840 on the medal marks her sensational first London season - 'Never before had the London public taken a new ballerina so spontaneously to their hearts.' (Ivor Guest "Fanny Cerrito", Phoenix House Ltd, 1956, p29).
The print came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest.
