Costume design probably for Nelly Miricioiu as Manon in "Manon Lescaut". The design depicts a full length female figure wearing an 18th century style costume. The costume consists of a wide panniered dull orange overdress and bodice, with a yellow underskirt. The dress is profusely decorated with brown frills and ribbons on the neckline, bodice and at the opening of the overskirt. There are also white frills at the cuffs and neckline.

Object history
This costume design by Alix Stone is part of an extensive collection of designs purchased by the Theatre Museum directly from the artist in 1994. The design was executed for a production of Puccini's opera "Manon Lescaut" performed by Scottish Opera at the King's Theatre, Edinburgh, August 22nd 1982. The production was directed by John Cox. The scenery was designed by Allan Charles Klein and the lighting was designed by Robert Bryan. The production was subsequently revived at the Dominion Theatre, London, in February 1983 after a tour of mainly Scottish theatres during the autumn of 1982.
