The costume consists of a yellow & green patterned jacket worn over a long black waistcoat decorated with silver embroidery. The figure also wears black knee breeches; white shirt with lace cravat and cuffs; black buckle shoes; a black and silver tricorne hat; and a long, curly grey wig. 3 Fabric swatches are attached to the lower left hand corner of the design.

Object history
This costume design by Alix Stone is part of an extensive collection of designs purchased by the Theatre Museum directly from the artist in 1994. The design was executed for a production of Puccini's opera "Manon Lescaut" performed by Scottish Opera at the King's Theatre, Edinburgh, August 22nd 1982. The production was directed by John Cox. The scenery was designed by Allan Charles Klein and the lighting was designed by Robert Bryan. The production was subsequently revived at the Dominion Theatre, London, in February 1983 after a tour of mainly Scottish theatres during the autumn of 1982.
