Object history
The image shows the eponymous heroine of Jules Perrot's ballet Caterina, ou La Fille du Bandit, a populer ballet of the Romantic period starring the Danish ballerina Lucile Grahn, which was seen in London in 1846. The image was probably printed on a needle packet.
The print came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest.

Historical significance: The use of Romantic Ballet images on commercially produced objects, such as needle packets and decorative boxes, is an indication of the spread and acceptability of images of the Romantic ballerina in popular culture.
