Physical description

Costume design for "Gladiator", possibly a character in a male strip show. The design depicts a nearly nude full length male figure on a grey background, carrying a gold shield on his left arm and holding a sword in his right hand. The figure wears a white jock strap and a wide white belt decorated with gold patterns; articulated gold armour on his right arm; and a large gladiator's helmet on his head. A pair of white shin shields are worn on his shins, and a pair of gold sandals are worn on his feet.

Object history note

This costume design by Anthony Holland was donated to the Theatre Museum by Patrick Lau after the death of the artist in 2001. The design complements a large collection of theatre designs given to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 1996.
