The central figure wears a dark blue dress, with low cut bodice over a white blouse; and a long black & red headcovering or scarf. The figure on the right wears a dark red dress and bodice, with a brown apron and a white cap. A Fabric swatch is attached to the lower edge of the design.

Object history | This costume design by Alix Stone is part of an extensive collection of designs purchased by the Theatre Museum directly from the artist in 1994. The design was executed for a production of Verdi's opera "Luisa Miller" by the Sadler's Wells Opera, October 1st 1953. The opera's libretto is adapted from Schiller's play "Kabale und Liebe", and the librettist was Salvatore Cammarano. The Sadler's Wells production was translated by Tom Hammond & Norman Tucker; conducted by James Robertson; directed by Basil Coleman; and the setting were designed by Patrick Robertson. The production was revived in January 1954, and October 1954. |
