Costume design for Victoria Elliott as Luisa in Act II & III of "Luisa Miller". The design depicts a full length female figure wearing a mid 17th century style costume. The costume consists of a yellow skirt with decorative border at the hem worn with a yellow and orange bodice & stomacher, and elbow length sleeves edged with lace. A white kerchief is worn around the neck and over the shoulders. 2 Fabric swatches are attached to the centre of the upper edge of the design.

Object history
This costume design by Alix Stone is part of an extensive collection of designs purchased by the Theatre Museum directly from the artist in 1994. The design was executed for a production of Verdi's opera "Luisa Miller" by the Sadler's Wells Opera, October 1st 1953. The opera's libretto is adapted from Schiller's play "Kabale und Liebe", and the librettist was Salvatore Cammarano. The Sadler's Wells production was translated by Tom Hammond & Norman Tucker; conducted by James Robertson; directed by Basil Coleman; and the setting were designed by Patrick Robertson. The production was revived in January 1954, and October 1954.
