This heavy porcelain mug was produced by Shanghai Tang in Hong Kong and given the name 'Leader and Flags'. The central design of Chairman Mao, painted in brilliant shades of yellow, red, green, black and turquoise, with a panel containing a red flag on either side is based on an oil painting made by Wang Ziwei in 1989.
Memorabilia of various kinds were produced in Hong Kong in around 1997, at the time of the handover to China.
