This heavy porcelain mug was produced by Shanghai Tang in Hong Kong and given the name 'Leader and Flags'. The central design of Chairman Mao, painted in brilliant shades of yellow, red, green, black and turquoise, with a panel containing a red flag on either side is based on an oil painting made by Wang Ziwei in 1989.

Memorabilia of various kinds were produced in Hong Kong in around 1997, at the time of the handover to China.

Porcelain mug decorated with green and red colours on a yellow ground depicting Mao Zedong.
[Storage box] Deep purple cardboard box with a central textile panel set into the lid; this bears the Shanghai Tang logo in briliant shades of lime green, orange , purple, yellow, black and fucsia pink.
