Object history
The copperplates are preserved in the Chalcographie du Louvre, Paris. The National Art Library purchased 4327 prints from the Chalcographie in 1855, which have since been transferred to the Department of Prints and Drawings.

This portrait of the engraver Robert van Voerst was created for Anthony van Dyck's Iconography, in the folio of 'Artists and Patrons'. The original plate was cut by van Voerst himself after van Dyck's design. The Louvre acquired the 126 plates of the Iconography in the 1840s and some copies of the plates seem to have been made, such as this one from 1848. The fact that it is a mirror image of the original suggests that it was copied from a print.
