Object history | The drawing came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest. Historical significance: The drawing records Theatre Street in St Petersburg, in which the ballet school to the Imperial Theatres was situated. The street was designed by the Italian architect Acrlo Rossi (the street is , sometimes referred to as Rossi Street) and stretches from the Alexandrinsky Theatre, which can be seen at the end of the street in the drawing, to the Charnyshev Bridge. Originally arcades were intended for commercial use, but one side of the street was handed over to the Directorate of the Imperial Theatres, and the arcades were converted into part of the ballet school. |
