Gallery label
Picasso made this linocut poster, which cleverly combines both a front-on and profile view of a matador, from one block. He used the uncut linoblock to print an overall orange background. Then he carved into the same block, inked it in black and printed on top of the orange. Picasso created many posters like this to advertise events including ceramic exhibitions and bullfights in his hometown of Vallauris.(August 2019)
