Object history
The subject of this portrait is listed by Whitman as Lady Ann Fitzpatrick, but the British Museum’s Catalogue of Engraved British Portraits (1910) describes the sitter as Lady Ann’s sister, Lady Gertrude. Reynolds’s sitter books record the sitter as Lady Gertrude.

The original portrait was painted in May 1787.
