Known for his mastery of aquatint, Norman Ackroyd (1938-) pioneered direct etching in the field with dramatic results. In this print aquatint provides a fine dense coverage, which Ackroyd has etched, scraped and burnished to create extraordinary atmosphere and depth. A single decisive drypoint line emphasises the low-lying hill in the foreground. Scraper marks are visible at the left edge.
