Wooden Model of a bee currently at Battersea, area DF, case MISC/D/7. Nearly but not quite identical with ISD 78&A-1977. With it is a piece of paper bearing the following in a 19th century hand: "This gilded beetle (sic) is from the throne of Theebaw, last King of Burmah, & was brought from Mandalay by the late Major General Elphinstone Waters Begbie C.B., D.S.O, in 1989". The bee appears never to have been accessioned by the Museum. GP 9th June 1999 (Graham Parlett) |
