Place of origin |
Cabinet with a moulded cornice, and a drawer in the frieze directly below. Main carcase is pine. The central cupboard is composed of two large panelled doors with burr maple veneers, and sprays of floral marquetry in the each corner, and also in a central oval panel. Ten small drawers are enclosed in the interior of the cupboard. Cabinet sits on a stand fitted with a long drawer, with further marquetry inlays in various woods of bouquets and sprays of flowers, reflecting the decoration of the two panelled doors in the cupboard above. The stand has five baluster legs, and is connected by four shaped stretchers (two sides, two at front), one straight stretcher at the back. On bun feet.
Two handles on the drawer in stand, and three key escutcheons used (x1 for drawer in stand, x2 for cabinet doors). There is a steel lock in the interior of the cupboard, yet the lock on the exterior cupboard door is 18th century brass.
