Marie-France Garcia is a singer, actress and activist born in 1946 in Oran, Algeria, during the period of French colonial rule. Involved in LGBTIQ+ rights from a young age, she was present at the May 68 demonstrations in Paris and joined the FHAR (Front homosexuel d'action révolutionnaire). She was directed by André Téchiné twice in her career and worked with Marguerite Duras in the theatre. She collaborated with Marc Almond in the 1990s to sing Edith Piaf and Jacques Prévert as well as more contemporary compisitions by fellow trans artist and activist, Hélène Hazera.
