Materials and techniques
Two types of rug weaving have been used; sormac and plain knotting onto the jute warp. The edges of the warp have been bent back and woven with lines of brown woollen weft. Brown wool binding wefts used throughout.

Historical significance: John Hinchcliffe secured a niche in the 1970s for weaving rag rugs to commission. A number were for public and private collections, as well as churches. The V&A has one large example, T.161-1978.
