Object history
The engraving shows the Burial Vault in the ballet Amleto, choreographed by Henry, designed by Sanquirico, given at La Scala, Milan in 1816.
The print came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest.

Historical significance: An example of early 19th century scene design, in the realistic, pictorial tradition by one of the leading Italian scene designers of the period.
One of the many productions inspired by Shakepeare's plays, in this case, a ballet based on Hamlet.
