Place of origin |
Valance of printed cotton. It is made from 14 pieces, joined vertically and pleated at intervals into beige cotton tape along the upper edge. The lower edge is bound with wider cotton tape.
The printed cotton has a light brown ground, although it should be noted that all the colours have faded - they are more realistic and brighter on the back. The pattern is one of two rotund birds standing among shrubbery beneath a flowering tree. The predominant colours at the time of acquisition are dark reds, browns and blue.
At the left hand side of the valance the lower tape, which has split along part of its length, extends for 116 cm. The upper tape is not attached to the final 87 cm of the printed cotton; the unattached piece of tape is 62 cm long.
At the right hand side of the valance a section of fabric about 37 cm wide is missing. The upper tape extends for 69 cm and is not attached to the final piece of fabric.
