Object history
The doll, named by the donor Pinkie, was given to Miss Hawkes in 1910 and was dressed by a lady living in Newcastle.
Penelope Eleanor Frances Hawkes was born 1st October 1909 and was still alive in 2000.
Historical context
The doll bears the number 700 but not a maker's mark as such. Several makers used 700, however, 700 was assigned by Armand Marseille in 1910 for a mould of a socket head with sleeping eyes and a closed mouth. This doll has the right colouring and a dimpled chin; it is very similar to other 'baby' AMs.
