Ward-Jackson, Peter, Italian Drawings Volume II. 17th-18th century, London, 1979, cat. 822, p. 92. The following is the full text of the entry: Bologna, early 17th century 821/822 Designs (2) for friezes, decorated with scrolled cartouches containing landscapes etc Pen and ink and wash 3 3/4 x 10 1/2 (95 x 260) and 4 x 11 (101 x 280) 53 and 94 PROVENANCE Bought 1857 The department’s register records a suggestion by Bodmer that the drawings were designs for frescoes (which he attributed to Annibale Carracci) in the Villa Guastavillani at Barbiano, near Bologna. But the drawings have no connection with any extant paintings in the villa; nor does the handling of the drawings justify an attribution to Carracci. No. 821 not illustrated
