Machine woven Axminster carpet in 42% wool, 50% jute, 8% cotton.
Dark turquoise ground with a mottled pattern in stripes of (from left to right) (i) brown, (ii) black with thin stripes of brown (iii) brown with thin stripes of black and (iv) black. Within this seemingly random pattern there are subtle diagonal lines in reserve; these form large diamonds which are wider than they are long. There is a narrow undecorated border of dark tourquoise along all four sides.
The ends are plainweave which has been turned under, bound with cotton twill tape and secured. The sides have returned selvedges.
