On the reverese,in pen and ink, is a sketch of a dress with bishop sleeves and beneath, in pencil, a pattern shape for trumpet sleeves. Pencil and watercolour, pen and ink. Annotated.

Object history
One of five costume designs by Andree Howard for her ballet La Muse s'amuse in the Cyril Beaumont Bequest. This design by Andree Howard is for The Hostess, danced by Maude Lloyd. The ballet was premiered by Ballet Rambert at the Mercury Theatre in 1936.

Historical significance: An example of ballet design from the 1930s for the significant company Ballet Rambert. Howard was one of the few choreographers who also designed her own works.
